Daily Painting - Feb 10, 2026
Trying to put what I say into practice, I tried going into this one with less stipulation, less forethought. I knew I wanted the eroded, layered feel of previous works but I also wanted to let the painting go where it wanted to. Like many artists will attest to, a lot of pieces will go through an "ugly phase" where we're unsure if we are heading in the right direction.
However, more experienced artists will also agree that the best way to fix any ugly phase is to push through. "The only way through is out" or something of that nature. I think I got there with this one, despite my doubts in the middle of its creation.
No one, as far as I know, has been clamoring for more real blog posts, though I do have a lot of thoughts I'd like to get out and onto the page. However, I would like to more eloquently gather those thoughts and present them in a more refined manner. Previous posts were very off-the-cuff, fire-at-will streams of consciousness.
However, I will say that it truly saddens me when I try to articulate reasons why someone shouldn't use genAI, and their reaction is to then use genAI, specifically Grok (yikes), to write a rebuttal about WHY USING AI IS GOOD. I can't think of a more fitting use of the term 'ironic.' Let's ask a thief why stealing is good; let's ask an arsonist why fire is good.
And then someone on his boomer parent's account decides to accuse me of sounding like a bot? I'm sorry, your son literally used a computer to do his thinking for him, and it was obvious. But that's just how it goes for the older folk - they just cannot tell the difference. So for us hyper-aware millenials, and our fellow aware gen-Zers, please do your family a favor and try to kindly educate them.
Thank you.
