An Update of Sorts
February, 2nd 2026
I can’t keep looking at Facebook, especially posts from people running for political offices. It’s not the political posts themselves, or the people making them; it’s the braindead takes from people who keep voting to make sure Oklahoma remains 50th in education. One post I saw had one person comment with various “haha libtard owned” memes, one at a time in individual comments. Also, the memes were pictures taken of a computer screen, so they are very obviously technologically illiterate, and therefore probably well past retirement age. I know this is extremely assumptive of me, but it’s no secret that Facebook is overrun with illiterate boomers, and Oklahoma is filled with illiterate conservative boomers, so, y’know…
So I’m doing what I can to avoid Facebook from now on. I’d like to save what is left of my sanity. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all for hearing differing opinions and viewpoints, but the fact of the matter is that is not what full-time social media dwellers are capable of offering. It’s almost always some form of “DEMONCRATS WANT TO MAKE EVERYONE TRANS” or “I liek TRUMP" which offers absolutely nothing of value to my life. If someone wants to articulate their reasons why they disagree with a given candidate's opinions or why they think a piece of pending legislation shouldn't be enacted, by all means, let's have a discussion. But I'm just so tired of the usual ignorant "LIBRULS ARE IDIOTS!!1!" baseless name-calling.
I endured the Shrimp Jesus, African Pepsi bottle, Korean Airlines wreckage AI slop parade. That was amusing at least. But these days, I can feel my brain cells exploding like Jiffy Pop every time I read some dimwitted diatribe from some leaded-fuel fume-filled childhood lunatic who was given unfettered access to the internet and a computer keyboard.
So I'm retreating to a place where there is no algorithm, nor state-sponsored media, nor advertisements, nor behind-the-scenes code that tracks every movement of my mouse cursor so they can determine what garbage to stuff into my feed from random strangers on the internet as opposed to the updates from people I actually know. Social media sites like Facebook sold us all initially on the idea that they were providing a place of connection, when in reality it allows even the most insane opinions and thoughts to be shared as equally and loudly (if not moreso) than actual level-headed common sense statements, which only further drives us apart.
It's exhausting, and I'm done with it.
I don't care about the 'memories' or status updates from over ten years ago.
I don't care about viral videos or celebrities.
I don't care about influencers.
So I'm going to focus on what I do care about.
